Having Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberton Firmino as his front three means that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp does not really have to worry about not having enough firepower at his disposal.
However, the options behind the starting XI, which include the likes of Divock Origi, Daniel Sturridge and Xherdan Shaqiri, has left a little bit to be desired for the Anfield faithful.
If the Reds are to establish themselves as genuine title contenders on a regular basis, there needs to be improvements not in the starting line up but through the entire squad – attack looking the most threadbare in terms of quality in depth.
One man who would no doubt get Anfield bouncing – not just for his exceptional talents but his previous history in the Premier League – would be Olympique Lyonnais and Netherlands maestro Memphis Depay.
The 25-year-old might have history with Liverpool’s fierce rivals Manchester United but it was not a happy relationship at Old Trafford and as Robert Pires says, he will likely be looking to prove himself once again in the top flight of English football.
Speaking to Bwin, the former Arsenal man said: “Depay wants to come back to the Premier League and he feels he has unfinished business in England.
“He perhaps feels he wasn’t given a chance to perform and earn the right to stay longer considering he was so young and showed glimpses of undoubted potential. Depay might want to return to Manchester United or he might be motivated to prove them wrong by performing for one of their rivals in the Premier League.”
Where else to rub salt deep into the wounds of Manchester United than Liverpool?
If the Dutch star wants a move back to England then Klopp would be wise to pounce on the opportunity to snap him up and bolster his attack with another world class talent – and Depay would find it very difficult to turn down a move to Anfield.
